Green and gray are the most common colours of the epoxy paint that is used when waterproofing rooftops and floors in South Korea. When viewed from an aerial perspective or online map, Korean cities look like square patches of green and grey.

The traditional octagonal tray, once used for rituals and as a symbol of honour for guests, is one of the most common objects discarded when people move houses. Octagonal trays are often found on the streets, filled with rainwater and slowly rotting away. Once collected and cleaned, we fill the trays with green or grey enamel paint. After a drying period the tray is hung on the wall, releasing an amount of paint proportional to the drying time and depth of the tray. The paintings, formed by chance and gravity, play with the symbolic colours that fill the current residential environment and the symbolic values, wealth and prosperity, related to the octagonal form.

옥상이나 바닥 방수 시공에 쓰이는 에포코트 상도의 가장 흔한 색은 녹색과 회색이다. 이는 항공뷰로 내려다보는 건물들의 평면적 풍경에서 가장 확연히 들어난다. 제사상 혹은 한때 귀한 손님을 모시던 팔각 모반은 사람들이 이사 나갈 때 버려지는 가장 흔한 물건 중 하나인데, 길거리에 버려진 팔각모반은 자주 빗물을 흥건히 담고 있는 경우가 많다. 폐기된 쟁반에 방수용 페인트를 대변하는 색의 에나멜 페인트를 붓고 일정시간의 건조 후 벽에 거는 이 회화는 쟁반의 깊이와 건조 시간에 비례하여 다시 일정량의 페인트를 토해낸다. 우연과 중력의 힘을 통해 형성되는 회화는 추상과 재현의 교차점을 탐구하는 동시에, 현재의 주거 환경을 메꾸는 상징적 색을 담으며 부자의 상징인 팔각문을 통해 영화를 염원한다.
