Viimeinen Sammuttaa Valot is a series of site specific light installations and individual sculptures, that are assembled from hundreds of gas pipes. The pipes have been collected around empty houses at redevelopment sites across Seoul. The pipes until recently served as the “veins” of the neighbourhood, providing the gas that heated all the houses. In our installation pieces the pipes are repurposed, fitted with small lights at the openings. In this reincarnation they only carry the memories of an existence already passed.

지난 한 세기 동안 핀란드 전역에선 여러 외딴 마을들이 전력망과 연결될 때 그걸 축하하는 조명 축제를 열곤 했다. 불과 몇 십 년 후, 바로 이 마을들의 인구가 소멸되고 동네가 버려지는 안타까운 상황을 일컬어 “마지막으로 떠나는 사람이 불을 끈다”라는 다소 우울한 속담이 생겼다. 철거된 주택에서 발견한 폐기물과 혼합매체로 이루어진 조명조형물인 <비메이넨 삼뭇따 발롯/ 마지막으로 떠나는 사람이 불을 끈다>는 급격한 재개발과 건설산업이 끊임없이 만들어내는 파괴 속 마지막 불을 끄게 되는 집을 묘사한다. 과거 집에 공급되었던 가스배관은 전시 공간에 맞게 설치되고, 마지막 불을 비추는 역할을 한다.
